Michael Skupin's stint on Survivor 2 was
spectacular in at least two ways: he
was the first contestant to kill a wild
animal, and was the first contestant to
depart without hearing the words 'The
tribe has spoken'.
The former
incident involved a wild boar that wasn't
fleet enough afoot and for its shortcoming
promptly became the guest of honor at a
pig roast to the great enjoyment of the
tribe. The latter incident was as
unfortunate as it was unexpected.
Which idling passively aside a campfire,
Michael passed out just long enough to
land hands-first in the smoldering embers,
incurring severe burns that ended his
Outback experience prematurely in favor of
an evacuation helicopter and hospital
stay. In no small measure his
unexpected loss directly affected the
course and eventual outcome of the game.
In his brief time
onscreen Michael Skupin proved himself a
hunter, a warrior, and a man of strength
and fortitude that will forever mark him a
man's man. Few higher compliments
can be paid.
