On Survivor Gervase Peterson was an
enigma. He caught no food or fish,
performed precious little work around
camp, insulted the women by comparing them
to cows, and with but a fuzzy exception or
two didn't contribute much to the immunity
or reward challenges. And yet he
remained in the game long after others
more deserving had been ousted.
To this day many
search for an explanation to Gervase's
popularity with his tribe members.
There was little doubt that the lure of
his personality mightily abetted his
cause, as did his enthusiasm, optimism,
and sense of humor. But he also had
a non-threatening way about him, lending
those around him a sense of security.
As much as anyone
else Gervase has endeavored to carve out
some sort of celebrity career since his
days in Borneo on Pulau Tiga. Indeed
anytime there's a Survivor related
event Gervase is likely to make an
appearance, and in fact was among the
group of four former Survivor contestant
who re-emerged in prime time on CBS by
spending a night in the Big Brother
house.
